|The Hostellers Sailing Club offers day sailing and dinghy cruising during the summer and country walking during the winter. The HSC suits all levels of sailing experience including complete beginners. Most members live in London/ Essex/ Southeast England, we also now have a few in Devon. We keep a club owned Wayfarer dinghy on a mooring at Paglesham on the River Roach in Essex.|
Those events that are listed below in blue italics are not events organised by the HSC but they may well be of interest to our members. I would particularly draw members attention to the Charante Maritime Cruise since several of us enjoyed the event that Miles arranged in this area in 2016. Ideas for HSC events in 2018 are of course welcome!
20 January - Maldon Little Ship Club rowing race
One of our members plans to take part and another is considering it. Anyone else interested? It's a not too serious race to raise funds for the RNLI. Not just for rowing boats - canoes, standup paddle boards, yacht tenders, rubber boats can all enter. Start at 13:30, Maldon Quay.
3 to 4 March - RYA Dinghy Show
At Alexandra Palace in North London. This exhibition is not just racing dinghies - I understand that it is now official RYA policy to support dinghy cruising! Details from http://www.rya.org.uk/programmes/dinghy-show/Pages/hub.aspx
27 March to 2 April - Escale a Sete
A sailing festival mainly for tall ships and yachts based at the port of Sete on the French Mediteranean coast. Details at www.escaleasete.com
30 March to 2 April - Easter at Wells-next-the-Sea
We have now made a group booking to spend the Easter weekend at this hostel on the north Norfolk coast. Their are probably still some beds available for additional guests or prospective new members. Contact John.
25 to 28 May - Biesbosh sailing and camping event
01 to 03 June - Beale Park Boat Show
A boat show mainly for small boats which is usually attended by a few of the HSC membership. The show is held by a lake near Pangbourne. Details at http://www.bealeparkboatandoutdoorshow.co.uk
23 to 30 June - Seafair
This sailing and camping event takes place on the Cleddau river and estuary in Pembrokeshire. The event includes a sail and oar fleet based at Lawreny where camping facilities are provided. HSC members have attended this event on several past occasions - Details at http://www.seafairhaven.org.uk/2018-registration
28 June to 16 July - Lough Erne DCA Rally
25 to 29 July - Douarnenez
Sailing festival for all boat sizes including tall ships held at Douarnenez in Brittany. John and Josephine sailed at this festival in 1995 and it was a big event then, I understand that it is still impressive.
18 to 31 August - DCA Cobnor
2nd week of September (exact start/finish dates tbc) - Charante Maritime Sail and Oar Cruise
Miles is planning another sail and oar cruise in his local sailing area on the west coast of France. Several HSC members enjoyed the first of these events held in 2016 - below are several pictures from that event. For details Click here to contact Miles Dent
The five pictures below are from an event organised in September 2016 on the west coast of France by DCA member Miles D., this event being supported by several members of the HSC. Click here for an account of this event
